Environment by Design – December 2016 Vol 40, No 2 (2016) EDRA48 Madison – Poster and Shorts Deadline – Friday, December 2 The Program Committee invites you to consider submitting an EDRA Short or Display Poster for the EDRA 48 Conference in Madison. EDRA Shorts EDRA Shorts are a new presentation option designed to offer informal content to conference attendees in an engaging, abbreviated presentation. Each presentation should be a 6-minute visually-oriented presentation (slides, video, animation, etc.) responding to a particular topic area or research construct. Submission requirements: One summary abstract detailing the topic and design methodology. Include four learning objectives. The abstract word limit is 300 words. Display Posters Display Posters should represent in-progress research or finished research that lends itself to visual presentation, and/or research-informed design projects. In these sessions, the presenter stands near the poster or exhibit and discusses its content or design with nearby conference attendees. Poster presentations are an appropriate outlet for professional or student studio design work, policy studies, or visual research. Submission requirements: One summary abstract detailing the topic and design methodology. Include four learning objectives. The abstract word limit is 300 words. To expand the educational reach of accepted poster display, authors of accepted poster display proposals will be required to upload an electronic copy of the Poster Display file for posting on the EDRA website. EDRA Statement – New Mission and Vision This Autumn at the annual EDRA Board of Directors’ retreat, the EDRA Board revisited our organization’s mission and vision as a way to ground us in the spirit of EDRA’s founders and rearticulate our values and goals for the present and future. As a result of our discussions at the retreat, held in September, we revised EDRA’s Mission and Vision Statements. It seems timely, at this point in our history, that we, as an organization, reaffirm our commitment to all members of our community and to the principles of inclusivity, equity, and diversity in an effort to advocate for better environments for people and other species. EDRA will continue to support and advocate for research, education, and practice that improves the lives of all, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality/sexual identity and religion. It is our pleasure to share with you EDRA’s Mission and Vision. Mission EDRA’s purpose is to advance and disseminate research, teaching, and practice toward improving an understanding of the relationships among people, their built environments, and natural eco-systems. The mission of EDRA is to provide a collaborative, multidisciplinary community to connect theory, research, teaching, and practice to recognize, create and advocate for environments that are responsive to diverse human needs.
