If you are travelling from outside Canada, you will need documentation to enter the country. Visitors from the US will need a passport. There will be no replies to requests for documentation that are not in support of EDRA56 conference attendance.   --- **halifax AIRPORT and airport TRANSPORTATION** What are my options for getting to Halifax? The best way to arrive from most locations is through the Halifax International Airport (YHZ). EDRA56 attendees can book 5-10% discounted flights on Air Canada. For more information on how to use the code, [**click here**](https://www.edra.org/resource/resmgr/edra56/faq/era56_-_air_canada_discount_.pdf).  What is the best way from the airport to the conference site? There are four main ways to get from the Halifax Stanfield International Airport to downtown Halifax. If arriving between the hours of 5:00am and 11:30pm, we recommend **[Halifax Transit’s Route 320](https://cdn.halifax.ca/sites/default/files/documents/transportation/halifax-transit/route320_feb23.pdf)** (plus one free transfer), which leaves either every 30 or 60 minutes. You can pay with exact change ($4.25 CAD) or with the **[HFXGO Transit Passes](https://www.halifax.ca/transportation/halifax-transit/fares-tickets-passes/hfxgo)** app. Here you can buy 1,2, and 7 day passes. Note that Regional Passes/tickets/top-ups are needed for Airport Route 320 and other Regional Routes.  Other options include the **[Maritime Bus](https://maritimebus.com/)** service, car rental, and taxis/ride-sharing (Uber). Taxis and ride-sharing begin at around $65-$70 and take around 30 minutes.  --- **LOCAL TRANSPORTATION** What is the best way to get around Halifax while I’m visiting? Halifax has great regional transit on electric buses; EDRA56 attendees will get **free local public transit** just by showing your EDRA badge. Use this handy **[local transit guide](https://discoverhalifaxns.com/plan/halifax-transit-guide/)** to plan your visit. Downtown Halifax is quite hilly with steep grades, with good pedestrian facilities throughout the city; the street outside the convention centre is pedestrianized. Consider **[checking walking routes on Google Maps to see the incline changes.](https://www.businessinsider.com/guides/tech/how-to-find-elevation-on-google-maps)** There are many food options and fun sites within a few blocks of the convention centre and conference hotels. The famous **[Halifax Waterfront](https://discoverhalifaxns.com/things-to-do/halifax-waterfront/)** is a short walk away, with so many things to do you can’t miss out. Halifax Airport also has **[several car rental options](https://halifaxstanfield.ca/parking-transport/rental-cars/)**, should you want a vehicle during your time at the conference. **No conference events will require you to have your own car.** Where can I find ADA transportation services? All Halifax Transit buses are accessible, including the **[Regional Express #320 Airport—Fall River](https://www.halifax.ca/transportation/halifax-transit/routes-schedules/regional-express-service)** bus. Travellers can also arrange for service using Halifax’s **[Access-A-Bus](https://www.halifax.ca/sites/default/files/documents/transportation/halifax-transit/Access-A-Bus%20-%20User%20Guide%20-%20Sept2019.pdf)**. Accessible taxi service is integrated into the fleet of taxis serving Halifax Stanfield Airport. Please request an accessible taxi from the Ground Transportation desk. Passengers are asked to communicate the details of their specific needs to staff at the Ground Transportation Desk to ensure their needs are met. TJ’s Driving Service offers wheelchair-accessible bus and taxi service to Metro and throughout the province of NS. Reservations require 24 hours’ notice and may be made by calling (902)-441-9100. TJ’s Driving Service can accommodate a non-folding or non-collapsing mobility aid. --- **STUDENT RESOURCES** **What student scholarships are available for EDRA56?** For information about the Nana Kirk Scholarship and to apply, please see: **[www.edra.org/nanakirktravelscholarship](http://www.edra.org/nanakirktravelscholarship)****[.](http://www.edra.org/nanakirktravelscholarship)** --- **things to do and see in halifax** What attractions are in and around Halifax? As Atlantic Canada’s largest city and cultural capital, there is lots to do and see in and around Halifax. Discover Halifax has outlined these experiences for First-Timers to Halifax (see more **[here](https://discoverhalifaxns.com/things-to-do/the-first-timers-guide-to-halifax/)**). Been here before? See Discover Halifax’s **[Second Timer’s Guide to Halifax](https://discoverhalifaxns.com/things-to-do/the-second-timers-guide-to-halifax/)**.  1. Walk the Halifax Waterfront 2. Lounge on the steps at Queen’s Marque 3. Venture up Citadel Hill for the noon gun 4. Walk Spring Garden Road up to the Halifax Public Gardens 5. Explore the Halifax Central Library 6. Ride the ferry and explore downtown Dartmouth 7. Relax on an Argyle Street patio 8. Try a donair 9. Visit Peggy’s Cove What should I do for dinner in the evenings with no planned activities? If you've been making connections throughout the conference, finding company for an evening dinner should be easy. EDRA is known for its welcoming and open vibe, though it's true some attendees, especially long-timers, might stick to their usual groups. However, plenty of first- and second-time attendees will be eager to meet and mingle. By Friday, you'll recognize enough people to feel comfortable reaching out if you've paid attention to who you've met in Intensives, paper sessions, and Network meetings. Don't hesitate to invite someone to dinner.   Where can I find local guides, maps, and restaurant recommendations for Halifax? You can visit the **[EDRA56 page from our local partners at Discover Halifax](https://businesseventshalifax.com/events/edra-56)**. It includes helpful links to city guides, maps, and a dedicated section with restaurant recommendations to help you explore the area.   --- **CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDITS/CEU**Are Continuing Education Units (CEUs) offered at EDRA56? Yes. Please check the [**EDRA56 home page**](http://www.edra.org/edra56) for updates on sessions with approved credits. --- **AT THE CONFERENCE** **What are Mobile Sessions and do most people attend them?** Mobile Sessions are unique opportunities to explore local sites in Halifax through workshops and tours, offering a hands-on learning experience away from the typical conference setting. These sessions are three or four hour workshop and tours on site at a particular domain location of interest, taking you out of the Halifax Convention Centre and into the field. These sessions occur in the afternoon of Friday. While attending a Mobile Session means missing out on some traditional sessions at the Halifax Convention Centre, the immersive experience at the site of interest often provides significant value and networking opportunities. Expect to share this experience with 10 to 30 attendees. **I am presenting a paper. What should I know?** Presenting at EDRA is a chance to connect with a friendly and supportive audience keen on learning about your work. If you invite feedback and suggestions after your presentation, you are likely to receive valuable input.  You are responsible for your own session moderation.  Once the detailed schedule has been published, you can reach out to other speakers and discuss details on presentation timing and the handling of Q&A. Remember, our audience comprises researchers, students, and practitioners, making it crucial to tailor your presentation to suit these varied groups for greater impact. Consider highlighting research methods, findings, and their practical applications to address the informational needs of diverse attendees. Avoid industry-specific jargon and acronyms to ensure accessibility for all conference participants from different disciplines.   **Are there specific guidelines for the presentation format, and what steps are required beyond registration and slide preparation?** We don't have a set template for presentations. Expect to receive detailed guidelines and the presentation schedule around the end of April or early May. To assist you further, we've prepared materials to help you design and deliver excellent presentations. "[Tips Making PowerPoint Slides - Avoiding the Pitfalls of Bad Slides](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DiRHcrAvQVI)" is a valuable resource. These guidelines aim to improve the quality and effectiveness of your presentation at EDRA.   **Should I stay for the entire conference?** Arriving late or leaving early to save on costs means missing out on some of the conference's key moments. Arriving late may mean you'll miss the chance to participate in the Intensives and the opening reception. Many attendees, especially newcomers, form good connections on the first day that develop into friendships and collaborations beyond the Conference. Leaving the conference early can mean that you will miss valuable presentations, the closing keynote speech, miss out on learning about our host City during the mobile sessions, and the EDRA Member's meeting. Take a look at our **[EDRA56 Web App and Conference Program](https://edra.confex.com/edra/EDRA56/meetingapp.cgi)** before you start making plans!   **What if I want to attend overlapping sessions?** We try to schedule Knowledge Network meetings close to each other, making it easier for you to hop from one to another. If you can't attend a second or third Network meeting, at least pop in briefly to sign up, ensuring your name is on their list. Remember, even if you miss the meetings, you can still join any Knowledge Network through the EDRA website's member section, at no cost, and you're welcome to join multiple Networks.   **Is attending the opening reception important if I don't know anyone?** The reception might feel daunting if you're new and don't know anyone. However, try to connect with other first-timers to share experiences. You might even find some folks to have dinner or drinks with after the reception. Look for badges with names you recognize, especially if you're a student familiar with their work. Don't hesitate to introduce yourself. Most people at EDRA are welcoming and friendly. Joining others for dinner post-reception is an excellent opportunity for informal networking and making new acquaintances. **Should I attend the EDRA Annual Members Meeting?** Definitely! The general membership meeting is your gateway to understanding more about EDRA's activities beyond the conference and where you can start getting more involved. Held on May 30, 2025 at 12:30pm, the Members' Meeting is open to all attendees. Led by the EDRA Board, the meeting often ends with an engaging Q&A session. Don't miss it if you want to dive deeper into what EDRA offers and how you can contribute. Take a look at our **[EDRA56 Web App and Conference Program](https://edra.confex.com/edra/EDRA56/meetingapp.cgi).** **Where can I find information during the conference?** The EDRA registration desk is your primary source for information and is staffed throughout the conference. Individuals wearing Staff, Volunteer, and Organizer badges can also assist you. **How do I get the most out of viewing display poster sessions?** Each poster session lasts an hour. Before the conference, browse the program to identify posters you're interested in. This way, you can plan to spend quality time at each, engaging with the authors. Bring business cards for networking or inquiring about further research. You might discover potential collaborators or people with similar interests at these displays. Engage in conversations; it's a great networking opportunity. Go through the display area at your own pace, and don't skip displays that are not on your initial list. You might find unexpected topics that catch your interest. View our **[EDRA56 Web App and Conference Program](https://edra.confex.com/edra/EDRA56/meetingapp.cgi)**.   **What are Intensives, and should I arrive on Tuesday to participate?** Intensives offer in-depth discussions on specific topics with a small group, lasting half day. They're perfect for delving into subjects you're passionate about and meeting like-minded individuals. It's a great way to form meaningful connections and friendships that could last a lifetime. For instance, the Work Environments Intensive has fostered countless professional relationships and friendships over the years. Participating in an Intensive is a fantastic way to kickstart your EDRA experience and build a network of colleagues and friends right from the start. View our **[EDRA56 Web App and Conference Program](https://edra.confex.com/edra/EDRA56/meetingapp.cgi)** here.   **What are Knowledge Network Lunch Meetings and should I attend?** EDRA Knowledge Networks (KN) bring together people with similar research and practice interests for discussions on shared topics. The in-person KN meetings at the conference are also a great way to set an agenda for the year ahead and welcome newcomers. These meetings are prime opportunities to connect with peers in your field. The Network lunch meetings are led by the KN Chairs or a designated member and offer a chance to deeply engage with the community by taking on network roles for the next year, discussing potential event or webinar topics, and connecting around other shared initiatives within or between KNs. It's an excellent way to transition from newcomer to integral member. **What if I want to attend overlapping Knowledge Network meetings?** We try to schedule Knowledge Network meetings close to each other, making it easier for you to hop from one to another. If you can't attend a second or third Network meeting, you can still sign up and ensure your name is on their list as an interested member. Remember, you can join any Knowledge Network through the EDRA website's member section at no cost to be connected to KN activities. You're welcome to join multiple Networks to participate in meetings and webinars throughout the year.   **I am a student. Should I attend the Student Network Meeting?** Absolutely! It's a fantastic opportunity to connect with fellow students. EDRA reserves a spot for a student on its Board of Directors, and Alina Osnaga – our current Student Board Member – will chair the meeting.  This year the meeting is TBA.  It will feature tips on maximizing your conference experience, especially if you’re a first-time attendee or seeking networking for jobs and internships. Alina will also share other conference sessions students might find valuable and EDRA initiatives for student discussion and networking throughout the year. You’re also encouraged to attend a Knowledge Network lunch to connect with other EDRA members, too.   **What happens if I am unable to attend and present at the conference in person?** EDRA56 is an in-person conference; all presentations are expected to be delivered on-site. If you cannot attend, at least one of the authors or co-authors must be registered and present to deliver individual presentations (abstract, paper, poster etc). Alternatively, you may delegate the presentation to someone attending the conference on your behalf. If none of these options are feasible, please inform us as early as possible so we can adjust the conference program accordingly. However, if you have registered, your submission will still be included in the conference proceedings.   --- **ANY****UNANSWERED QUESTIONS?** Questions about your registration, EDRA memberships, or registration payments/invoices?
